Castillo de Javier (Xabierko Gaztelua) Navarra - España




Castillo de Javier (Xabierko Gaztelua en euskera) está situado en una loma de la localidad de Javier, en Navarra, a 52 km al este de Pamplona capital y 7 km al este de Sangüesa. Data del siglo X. En este castillo nació y vivió San Francisco Javier, hijo de los Señores de Javier, y de aquí tomó su apellido.Consta de tres cuerpos, sucesivamente escalonados en orden de antigüedad. Destacan la "Torre del Santo Cristo", bastión y capilla donde se encuentra un interesante crucifijo tardogótico y una serie de pinturas murales representando la danza de la muerte, única en España; la "Torre del Homenaje", llamada de San Miguel (lo más antiguo del castillo) y el museo dedicado a la vida del santo. En sus basamentos hay huellas y zócalos musulmanes que podrían ser del siglo X. En el XI se formó el primer recinto envolvente que cobijó las primeras habitaciones. En el siglo XIII se agregaron, por las cuatro orientaciones, dos cuerpos poligonales y dos torres flanqueantes

First Presbyterian Church - Dunedin,New Zealand




An essay in the Gothic tradition of church architecture, First Church was designed by R. A. Lawson to grace the top of the Bell Hill. For harbour reclamation and general leveling purposes, however, it was necessary to lower the hill some 12 metres before First Church (by then the third) could be constructed. Taking six years to complete, the church with its magnificent spire rising to 54 metres, opened for worship in 1873

Chicago Harbor Light



Chicago Harbor Lighthouse is an automated active lighthouse, and stands at the end of the northern breakwater protecting the Chicago Harbor, to the east of Navy Pier and the mouth of the Chicago River. It was constructed in 1893 for the World's Columbian Exposition and moved to its present site in 1919. The United States Lighthouse Board prominently displayed "its 'state of the art' wares and engineering achievements." Prominently featured was "the engineering marvel" of Spectacle Reef Light and a 111-foot-tall (34 m) skeletal cast iron lighthouse tower.

Pyramid of Menkaure - Cairo, Egypt




Pyramid of Menkaure, located on the Giza Plateau in the southwestern outskirts of Cairo, Egypt, is the smallest of the three Pyramids of Giza. It was built to serve as the tomb of the fourth dynasty Egyptian Pharaoh Menkaure. Menkaure's Pyramid had an original height of 66.5 metres (218 feet). It now stands at 61 m (204 ft) tall with a base of 108.5 m.

Governor's Palace - Williamsburg, Virginia






During a large portion of the period Williamsburg was the Capital of the Virginia Colony (1699 to 1780), the Governor's Palace was the official residence of the royal governor. The original building took 16 years to construct, and was completed in 1721.It was the last resident, Thomas Jefferson, who urged that the Capital of Virginia be relocated to Richmond in 1780 for security reasons during the American Revolution. The new lodging for the governor adjacent to the current Virginia State Capitol building in Richmond is more modest in size and style, and is called the Governor's Mansion. On December 22, 1781,the main building was destroyed by a fire. Some outbuildings survived, but were demolished during the American Civil War.
